Turkey, Georgia to boost bilateral trade volume to five billion dollars

(MENAFN) Türkiye and Georgia aim to boost their bilateral trade volume to $5 billion, Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat said on Wednesday, noting that current trade has already exceeded $3.5 billion.

Speaking at the Türkiye-Georgia Business Forum in Tbilisi, co-organized by the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) and the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bolat highlighted Georgia’s recent economic reforms and said they offer hope for a stronger shared future.

Bolat reaffirmed Türkiye’s support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, emphasizing that the prosperity of friendly nations is vital for Ankara.

He credited the 2008 Free Trade Agreement between the two countries for accelerating economic ties. “As a result, our mutual trade now exceeds $3.5 billion annually,” he said.

Turkish firms have been active in Georgia, with contractors completing 304 projects worth $5.6 billion so far, he added.

Bolat also described Georgia as a strategic transit country along the Trans-Caspian route and a vital link between Europe and Central Asia. He stressed the importance of joint infrastructure projects such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway and recent agreements on railway data exchange and border facilitation.

“The Türkiye-Georgia coordination is crucial for the sustainability of the Middle Corridor,” Bolat said.

Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili called Türkiye a strategic partner. “Georgia and Türkiye are not only neighbors but also two partner countries with strong and intensive cooperation,” she said.

Highlighting Georgia’s efforts to attract foreign investment, Kvrivishvili noted that the country’s economy grew by an average of 9.7% annually from 2021 to 2024.
